You are the one formidable.
The artist
Charles Aznavour (22 May 1924 – 1 October 2018) was a French-Armenian singer, lyricist and actor. Aznavour was known for his distinctive tenor voice: clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravelly and profound low notes. In a career as a composer, singer and songwriter, spanning over 70 years, he recorded more than approximately 1,200 songs interpreted in 9 languages.
My album
LP La Boheme (1965). Back then, songs were recorded and sold as albums. In 1965, Aznavour sang La Boheme and the song became his signature piece and one of France's most beloved songs. You can listen to it here. I cry everytime...
My song
Je m'voyais déjà (Je m'voyais déjà, 1961). Why? Because Aznavour tells the story of a wannabe singer who wants to be a star in Paris, who doesn't lack confidence and talent but never makes it, wearing the same suit and ambitions for 30 years.
Did you know?
For himself and others, he has written or co-written more than 1,000 songs. He has sold 180 million records, appeared in more than 80 films and was voted Time magazine's entertainer of the 20th century, edging out Elvis and Bob Dylan.
